Living Up to Expectations?

Author: Dave Carter
With celebrity owners like the exceedingly cool Paris Hilton, there's little doubt that Motorola's Razr cell phone is the one to be seen with. Available in a range of colors, including the heiress's signature pink, the Razr is the fashion accessory to be seen with. And while few consumers doubt the hip value of the half an inch thick phone, many reviewers are rating the cell phone in a slightly less favorable way. So is the Razr really all it's cracked up to be?

Let's just look at its physical dimensions first. While the phone is undoubtedly one of the slimmest you are likely to find, what it lacks in girth, it makes up for in widththe Razr is rather wide, which, in a fickle consumer world, might turn many people of it. But this minor imperfection aside, the Razr really does look good: with dual outer and inner screens that are impressively big, and a metal etched keypad with clear, raised number keys, the cell phone simply can't be accused of lacing in the looks department.
But we all know that beauty is only skin deep, and some find this truism to be nowhere more true than in the case of Motorola's Razr cell phone. Though they look good when new, the phone's dual screens are rather susceptible to damage, and some reviewers have reported that neither they, nor the keypad, wears well. The slender nature of the phone also creates a keypad that is only very slightly raised, and some users report difficulties in using the keys for typing SMS messages.

The Razr is made without any plastic in its casing, creating a smooth surface that is not easily damaged. The fashion conscious might wish to know, however, that though reviewers report the casing to be not easily dented, they comment that any damage inflicted does show up rather badly.

The software features included with the Razr comprise what reviewers report to be a good deal, including an email client, WAP browser and Java game support. The phone is not, however, powerful enough to support the type of gaming associated with action-type pursuits. Reviewers also note that the phone included in the Razr is unimpressive, with better models available with other phones.

In short, the Razr offers a range of qualities that make it a good buy for those who know what to expect. As a fashion accessory, the Razr undoubtedly fills the role more than adequately, but if you are looking for a simple, more basic phone then another cell phone choice might very well be best for you.
