Raising Kids on One Salary

Author: Peter Portero

Most couples are choosing to have fewer children than couples fifty years ago. One of the biggest reasons is because the cost of childcare is incredibly expensive. Couples with children rarely can afford to send more than one child to daycare at a time. When a family has multiple children that are between infancy and Kindergarten, they often agree that it is more financially viable for one parent to stay home until the children are in school all day. Although this solves the daycare dilemma, it can be stressful to raise kids on one salary.

The most important thing you can do when raising kids on one salary is to create a monthly budget. Even more importantly however, is strictly following it. When you know exactly how much money you need for bills, gas, groceries, and other monthly expenses, you will be less likely to overspend on other things. You should also try to make trips to the store, without your children. When you drag kids to the store with you, you will likely end up spending more by buying toys and other things to keep them occupied during the errand.

Overall, raising kids on one salary is certainly not impossible. Remember that it doesnt matter how much money you spend on your children, but it does matter how much time you spend with them. You may not be able to afford fast food every night of the week, but you will likely enjoy your time with your family even more.
