Ready, Aim...Aim...Aim...

Author: Mike Pniewski

How many gifted, educated people do you know who are smart but not successful? Do you know anyone who is masterful at preparation and research but short on results? Are you one of these people?

Some people call this problem "the paralysis of analysis," and it definitely affects actors. I've known many actors who spent years training in classes and workshops but never pushed themselves to pursue a career as a working actor. It can become a very safe environment where you get support and praise, which can feel really good. But it will eventually become dangerously safe. There comes a time when you've done the research, drawn the charts, studied the techniques, asked the questions, answered the questions and put your team together -- now you have to act!

If you're someone who fears taking the leap and buries fear in endless preparation and education, challenge yourself today to go for it. Trust your hard work and your depth of knowledge and take action.

Nobody ever achieved a dream without stepping out in faith. If you have all of the research and knowledge at your fingertips, then trust it -- and for goodness sake use it! Why put all the time and effort into honing your skills if you're not going to use them? Ask yourself how you can use the skills and expertise you already possess to reach your goals and be productive in your work.

Unapplied knowledge is like a dusty old book in a forgotten shelf of the library. It's taking up space but not doing much good. Shake off the dust and get moving!
